Joomla Magic Updater and 1.5.12

Many developers use the Joomla Magic Updater to upgrade sites.  It's a very handy extension because with one click you can update the entire site. This can save a lot of time downloading new versions and patches, particularly when you have several sites to upgrade.

This extension has always worked very well for me until the latest upgrade of Joomla to 1.5.12.  I do backups to sites before updating and it turned out to be just as well I did.  The updater did its job OK, but for some reason or another the update destroyed the current template configuration completely.  I simply restored the template directory for the version I was using and everything was fine again.

One of those fine examples that when everything is going well, don't assume it will the next time also.

Site Update Jun 11

I've heard back from the developers of the Article Manager extension today and they have issued a new version.  They have acknowleged the issues I have raised, which is a handy start.  It's not good when the problems you have on a site are unique.  They are attributing the problems with formatting to editors and are working on the issue.

I have yet to test the new version of the extension and I can't say what's in it as it didn't come with a changelog.  No doubt some improvements have been made and so we continue to work towards getting the site perfected using this extension.

Site Update Jun 8

Ah, the trials and tribulations of getting a new site up and running. I've been working on this one for several weeks now along with some other projects, so it has been a little slow in all coming together.

The big issue has been that the entire site effectively revolves around the Article Manager extension to allow the submission and management of all the articles that I hope will be submitted to the site. I've had quite a few problems with the extension and getting it to work effectively in the manner that I want.
